PENELOPE'S GIFT

“The Sky Is Falling,” done in the late 1980s, depicts two princesses, Lucia and Penelope ( Goosey Lucy and Henny Penny of the children’s tale.) They are approaching the King with gifts of jewels from industry that are present in the heavens, carbon dioxide, methane, and chlorofluorocarbons. The painting references many styles and civilizations.

It is skeptical of science’s decision about lurid predictions of ozone depletion, Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), carbon dioxide, and methane endangering the Earth’s atmosphere. (This view does not include other pollutants released by humankind, known toxins, and environmental poisons.)

Chlorofluorocarbons became controversial during the 1970s and 80s when studies seemed to implicate them in destroying the ozone layer in the stratosphere. This layer shields the Earth from most of the damaging ultraviolet radiation. The Montreal Protocol

Such is the case with the 1987 Montreal Protocol On Substances That Deplete The Ozone Layer (Montreal Protocol). The lurid predictions of ozone depletion-induced skin cancer epidemics, ecosystem destruction, and others haven’t come true, for which Montreal Protocol proponents congratulate themselves. But in retrospect, the evidence shows that ozone depletion was an exaggerated threat in the first place. As the treaty parties return to Montreal for their 20th-anniversary meeting, it should be cause for reflection, not celebration, especially for those who hope to repeat this “success story” in global warming. As far as ozone depletion is concerned, the thinning of the ozone layer throughout the 1980s stopped in the early 1990s, too soon to credit the Montreal Protocol. A 1998 World Meteorological Organization (WMO) report said that “since 1991, the linear [downward] trend observed during the 1980s has not continued, but total column ozone has been almost constant …” However, the same report noted that the stratospheric concentrations of the offending compounds were still increasing through 1998. This finding lends credence to the skeptical view, widely derided at the time of the Montreal Protocol, that natural variations better explain the fluctuations in the global ozone layer.

All In The Band

The Western world’s learning centers of Harvard, Johns Hopkins, and Oxford, as well as the government, better known in this painting as the King, will bestow his magnanimous philanthropy onto these representatives of knowledge.

It is a weakness in the methods used to understand our universe and increase knowledge.

Industry emissions of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and chlorofluorocarbons found in the sky become the gifts in the painting. The King accepts these gifts and will bestow billions of dollars on the universities’ great departments and learned professors. Confirming that these institutions will continue providing studies saying industry must be stopped from polluting the sky.

Government funding

The UK government provides significant university funding, including money explicitly intended to improve the country’s scientific infrastructure. Highlighting this fact, it announced a record £26.3 billion five-year budget for science last April. This money included a £5.8 billion capital commitment between 2016 and 2021.

The government has also committed to real increases in research and development investment of £2 billion per year by 2020 to help ensure British businesses remain at the cutting edge of technological and scientific discovery.
