Aeolus

The Painting

Oil on canvas 24″x24″ Aeolus, the Greek god, was known as the keeper of the winds.  Aeolus winds  create gravity by turning the Earth into a giant Van de Graaff generator.

The Background

Gravity is one of the mysteries not yet solved. Nevertheless, science believes the Earth’s tremendous physical quantity of matter attracts and holds matter to its surface. Matter attracts matter is the basis of this idea. Therefore, there is a constant attraction of material objects toward the Earth. Galileo proved that this size of the object did not change the strength of the attraction.

Nevertheless, if matter attracts matter, should not more matter attract more. However, that is not the case. So perhaps gravity is caused by another type of attraction. Static electricity may hold a clue.

Static Electricity

For that reason, let us look at Static electricity. Static electricity is an imbalance between negative and positive charges between objects or substances. For example, the movement of the different layers of the atmosphere creates static electricity charges between Earth and specific layers of its atmosphere. For example, seeing the Earth as a giant Van de Graaff generator, the dry winds in the upper atmosphere create enough static charge to hold any matter to the Earth. Charges in the upper atmosphere cannot dissipate into space as there is not enough matter to conduct the charge away into space.
For this reason, planets like the Moon can hold onto a charge for eons. A charged balloon would hold its charge in a vacuum without a wall. The charge cannot dissipate. The atmosphere causes the Earth and other planets to behave like a Van de Graff generator. The lower levels of the atmosphere create static electricity, but art is too humid to store an imbalance in charge.
