Drawing people who are not posing presents its challenges, but I love doing it. You have to draw quickly, and you don’t have time to complete the drawing properly when people move, turn away, get up, and leave while you are sketching them, which can make some drawings look distorted or wonky. These drawings were done in fast-food restaurants, bars, and airports.
I’ve learned that in restaurants, it is best to draw only two people and start just after they sit down. The people will only look at the other person and their food. This gives you more time and a better chance to get a good likeness without interruptions.
I never mind when my plane is delayed, and with everyone on their cell phones, they tend to hold poses longer. Over the years, I’ve accumulated many drawings by carrying my sketchbook everywhere. You are welcome to take a look at these sketches.
Unfortunately, the photos give the paper a gray tone. These pencil sketches are on white paper.
