Jet Skis And Manatees

or "The Sensure of Venus at Doctor's Pass"

This is an homage to a Boucher painting and a comment on the rejection of another painting I submitted to a show. I guessed the reason was because there was nudity. I did not see a problem with restrictions but felt the application should state those limitations. There was an application fee, and it was unfair not to express conditions on the application yet not refund my payment. The judge’s rejection stated it was of poor quality. A second sticky note from someone who worked at the center said they disagreed and thought it was a great painting. I applied to a subsequent show with a takeoff of Rubens’ painting and had to stand my ground to get it into the show.
I painted Jet Skis and Manatees as a diptych and stretched the canvas over a galvanized steel plate. The second panel is a small closet with magnetic bathing suits that can be applied to the painting when the nudity needs to be covered. Dance In The American Mall

I observed a square dance exhibition at Naples Coastland Mall, which inspired me to create a painting. It was a cowboy-themed cultural event that took place on Thursday afternoons, attracting shoppers. The men’s shirts matched their partners’ dresses, and the women’s costumes included crinolines, petticoats, satin bows, and lace bodices, reminiscent of the 18th century. The dancers were septuagenarians, octogenarians, and nonagenarians, and they were clearly enjoying themselves.

Over the course of a few months, I sketched the dancers as they moved through the malls and parking lots of Lee and Collier County. It was during the parking lot gatherings that I was introduced to clogging, line dancing, and square dancing, with the latter becoming my favorite. I noticed the progression of age as the dancers transitioned from clogging and line dancing to square dancing.I aimed to capture their youth, joy, and love. However, it was the square dancers who appeared to have the most fun, both as couples and as a group.

The parking lot hoedowns introduced me to clogging, line dancing, and, my favorite, square dancing. But the square dancers seemed to have the most fun—the dancer’s interaction as couples and as a group was captivating.
I painted them with their youth, joy, and love.

Varnishing Cocktails

The Art Scene is at an opening, an evening where people can check each other out. Aren’t they here to see the paintings? The pictures will still be here tomorrow. Art could be checked out later.
